Sport Auto France - Supertest McLaren 720S

Publié le 28 Août 2018

! UPDATED !
On Bugatti track, Christophe Tinseau (circuit test driver)
He did not expect the McLaren 720S to beat the record, was targetting 1'43''50... and achieved 1'41''65. Main "weapon" of the McLaren is its very low mass. Very stable car, even on standard tyres. So there is still some margin with semi-slicks ! As usual, best lap done without ESC connected. Nothing is bas on the car, is very stable, very well controled body movements. Only limitation is the amount of available power, more difficult to manage when ESC is off than the 675LT for instance.
Generic comments
Very low mass despite a very satisfying comfort level (very complete equipment level). Still a few electical issues. Very usable on the road, not to low to pass bumps and speed reducers, with great suspensions, at the same time comfortable and good for sport. A work of art. Impressive accelerations (2.8sec to 100km/h, 7.3sec to 200km/h, exactly the same time recorded for the Porsche 918. 21.5sec to 300km/h. Lap time recorded on brain new tyres (but not on the more "aggressive" Trofeo). A previous run has been recorded 1'42''41 on the original tyres (to be compared to Huracan Performante's best of 1'42""49 and Porsche 918 of 1'42"63). Very easy car to drive fast, as long as ESC is kept On. Off position is to be reserved to track and to sombody who knows his own limits. Superb steering. It is not developped as a track weapon, yet it performed superbly.
Power/Torque actual measurement
- 735PS (at 7850rpm) instead of official 720PS (at 7500rpm)
- 78.9mkg (at 6480rpm) instead of official 78.5mkg (at 5500rpm)
